TITRE DE LA THÈSE
Multinational Companies in Peripheral Economies : The New Economic Imperialism through GVC in Brazil
RÉSUMÉ DE LA THÈSE
The objective of this research is to study the nexus between the new economic imperialism and the dominant financialized pattern of capital accumulation, something that imposes constraints on the economic development of peripheral regions. Specifically, the intention of this research is to study the manifestation of new economic imperialism through the behavior of multinational companies in the context of productive globalization – GVCs. The main hypothesis is that the companies’ financialized accumulation at the center of the world economic system – showing profits without investments – finds part of its support in overexploitation of labor in peripheral regions – with remission of profits and payment of interests. To achieve this objective, this project uses the representative case of Brazil, a country with a highly denationalized production structure, trying to find evidence of imperialist behavior and overexploitation of workers on the activities of PSA and Carrefour.
