The Faculty of Geosciences and Environment at the University of Lausanne plans to appoint three
new professorships in its Institute of Geography and Sustainability (IGS), one of which in
development studies with a focus on society-environment relationships in the Global South. A
background in geography, sociology, anthropology or a related discipline is required. Furthermore,
demonstrable experience with inter- and transdisciplinary collaborations and with field-based
research are essential.
The Institute of Geography and Sustainability (IGS) provides an excellent environment for research
including earmarked funds for PhD students, personnel and operating funds (information on request).
The successful candidate is expected to collaborate with the members of the existing Development
Studies Group of the IGS (www.unil.ch/igul/page16226.html). The Institute also provides an
exceptional context for teaching and the successful candidate will be expected to contribute to
teaching across the curriculum with a particular emphasis on strengthening of the Master’s
specialization in development studies.
